Communiqué N° 13 - Sunday 18th June

12h00 - 14h00 : The n°3 Cadillac hits trouble,
The No.16 Peugeot moves up

Behind the Audis the No.3 Cadillac occupied a solid fourth place in the hands of Eric Bernard but at 12h15 it suffered a suspension breakage on the pits straight. He had to do a complete lap to reioin his pit where the replacement of the damaged parts took over an hour. This let the No.16 Courage into fourth at 12h42 and the Cadillac rejoined in eighth place behind the nos 23 and 12 Panoz Spyders in 5th and 6th places respectively. Up to seventh came the leading Viper in the LM GTS category. 10 minutes after its return to the track the No.3 Cadillac driven by Franck Montagny  was back in its pit. It was too badly damaged to continue and Dams decided to wait for the chequered flag.

Panoz battle for fifth place

The No.23 Panoz was briefly in fifth 2 laps behind the Courage C52 ahead of the works entry No.12 until 13h45 when it had to pit to solve a gear selection problem allowing No.12 into fifth overall.
The second works car of Mario Andretti went off in the fast right hander near Indianapolis following a puncture on the front left-hand tyre. He was able to get back to his pit.
The C60 Courage went out with engine failure at 13h17. The No.6 Reynard-Mopar had to have its clutch purged but rejoined with different rear settings.

In the LM GTS Category the No.51 Viper was still in the lead and the duel for second turned to the advantage of the No.53 Chrysler which got past the No.63 Corvette. The No.59 Porsche of  Kaufmann-Hane-lketani had 2 punctures in as many minutes.

In LM GT it was looking like a walk-over for Dick Barbour's 911 GT3-R. The No.75 Porsche of Gunnar Racing was in a sorry state and awaited the dying minutes of the race to rejoin.
