Scrutineering and administrative checks - more than just a formality...
Wednesday, June 13th, 2001

According to tradition, the 69th edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours kicked off in the Place des Jacobins, in blazing sunshine and amid a rapidly growing crowd.

On Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th June, the 48 cars chosen by the selection committee were present for the technical and administrative checks. After the N°3 Audi from team Champion Racing/David Maraj, came 17 LMP900's, 2 LMGTP's, 8 LMP675's, 9 LMGTS's and 11 LMGT's - all took their turn at the various check points.
But despite the rigorous testing that the cars were subjected to at the preliminaries, nine competitors did not conform to the required standards and had to be re-checked on Wednesday in order to be able to take part in the qualifying practice sessions.
Among the nine competitors who had to be re-checked were the N°10 Dome from Den Bla Vis - Team Goh, the N°19 Courage from the SMG team, the N°33 and N°34 MG's from MG Sport & Racing Ltd, the N°38 Reynard from the Roc Auto team, the N°55 and 56 Vipers from the Paul Belmondo Racing team, the N°63 and 64 Corvettes from the Corvette Racing Gary Pratt team.
Finally, everything was in order and all 48 cars launched themselves into the first set of qualifying sessions.
